KPIs only work when people can see them
A key performance indicator tells you whether something important is moving in the right direction. A KPI objective goes one step further: it gives that indicator an owner, a start value, a target and a deadline, so everyone knows what good looks like and who is responsible for getting there.
Most organisations already know their KPIs. The problem is tracking them. Figures live in separate spreadsheets, updates arrive late, and by the time a manager spots a slipping target the quarter is nearly over. StaffCircle brings KPI objectives into the same platform as your performance management — reviews, one-to-ones and feedback — so progress is part of every performance conversation, not a separate report.
Everything you need to track KPIs properly
StaffCircle objectives are built for measurable targets, so KPI tracking works the same way for every team.
Measurable targets
Choose how each KPI is measured — number, percentage, financial or yes/no — then set a start value and a target value so progress is calculated, not guessed.
Aligned from top to bottom
Link personal objectives to department objectives, and department objectives to company objectives, so every KPI shows how it contributes to the bigger picture.
Updates without chasing
Employees update their own progress, and automated reminders and check-in scheduling keep figures current. Filters show what is overdue, due soon or not updated in 30 days.
Bring in external data
If KPI figures are recorded in another system, the Objective Updates Importer brings that progress into StaffCircle so nobody has to re-key numbers.
Leaderboards and reports
An optional Objectives Leaderboard shows how people and departments are progressing, and reports such as the Objective Summary and People Without Objectives show coverage at a glance.
Context on every KPI
Each objective has its own conversation, so managers and employees can add comments, images and documents alongside the numbers.
From KPI to measurable objective in four steps
Define the KPI
Create an objective from scratch or from a template, choose the measurement type and set the start and target values.
Assign and align
Assign an owner and a reviewer, set the priority and link the objective to the department or company goal it supports.
Track progress
Owners record progress updates with a status of on track, off track or at risk. Every update is kept, so you can see the full history.
Review and act
Open objectives sit alongside reviews and one-to-ones, so KPI progress feeds straight into performance conversations.
KPI objectives FAQs
What is the difference between a KPI and an objective?
A KPI is the measure — for example customer retention or average response time. An objective is the commitment to move that measure: who owns it, what the target is and when it is due. In StaffCircle you track KPIs as measurable objectives with a start value, target value and deadline.
Can I track KPIs and OKRs in the same system?
Yes. StaffCircle supports SMART objectives and OKRs (objectives and key results), so teams can track straightforward KPI targets and broader OKRs side by side in one hierarchy.
How are KPI objectives measured in StaffCircle?
Each objective can be measured as a number, a percentage, a financial value or a simple yes/no. Progress is shown as a percentage of the target, with a status of on track, off track or at risk.
Can we import KPI data from other systems?
Yes. If progress is recorded outside StaffCircle, the Objective Updates Importer lets you import that data to update objectives, which also feeds the Objectives Leaderboard.
Can employees update their own KPI progress?
Yes. Employees can view and update their own objectives, and objective templates can be configured so employees create their own objectives through self-service.
