Updating Skills with the Skills Assessment

The Skills Assessment feature may have been configured for a review you are conducting for an employee. This feature will allow you to add new skills, and update existing skill levels in accordance with that employee’s proficiency.

Skills can be assigned at a role level, which may have been configured by your system administrator.

You will only be able to see the SKILLS ASSESSMENT section of the review if you are the Reviewer, these follow the feedback questions you are required to answer (and objectives if these have been included in the review).

This SKILLS ASSESSMENT tab will display a list of the employee’s skills and current skill level.

Add a new Skill

To add a new skill for the employee, click the plus button to the right. This will open the add skill popup where you can select the name of the new skill(s).

Then click the SAVE button to add the skill to the employee’s profile. This will now appear in the Skills Assessment section under the other skills.

Update Skill Level

Skill levels can be updated as part of the employee’s review and is recommended to ensure that this information accurately effects the employee’s proficiency. It presents an opportunity to discuss the employee’s progression routes, development needs, and highlight any areas for improvement.

Click on the box associated with the employee’s skill level. The skill level can be moved upwards to indicate growth or surplus, or down to indicate deficit.

The light green boxes illustrate the employee’s current proficiency in that skill (if that skill is associated with their role). If a green tick is visible, then the employee is meeting the skill level required for their role. Likewise, a number may appear next to the boxes to indicate whether the employee is is surplus or deficit of a skill.

If the skill is not associated with the employee’s role, then the skill level will display as yellow boxes.

Red boxes indicate that the employee is in deficit of that skill in line with their role, which suggests areas of improvement.

Remove a skill

Skills with an existing skill level cannot be removed from this view, however they can be removed from the employee’s profile by following the guidance here. If a skill has been added in error, then this can be deleted by clicking the red trash can icon next to the skill.
